Blackwater Boot Knife II

|
Mike Stewart said
“Here is the Special Edition
Blackwater Boot Knife II. This one was a request by many of
you once we announced that we were going to discontinue the Smaller Blackwater.
I wanted this knife to be a scaled up version of the original Blackwater we
did when we first introduced the knife. It was Hollow Ground so this one is
too.
This one is a little different. Not just because it is hollow ground but
because it is what we call–Large Diameter Shallow Hollow Ground. The Result
is a very, very Heavy Edge Spine. Heavier than our normal Convex Grind. As
most of you know the normal hollow ground Blade lacks the edge spine to
support carbides well. This one does not have that issue. It is heavy on
the edge. You will find these deceptively sharp.
There is nothing Delicate about these Boot Knives. The Steel is Bohler N685
(see Rustic Forge Steel Chart) like we used on the Forester and it is very,
very tough. These will hold an edge well and will still strop up razor
sharp.

Blade Length: 4.5 Inches

1855 Hunting Bowie

|
Mike Stewart said
“This style of Bowie was actually very rare. It is also referred to as a London Hunting Knife.
A true Hunting Bowie
is double hollow ground and maintains a eavy center spine. These knives
were specifically for dispatching game with a quick thrust.
Hollow grinding was actually very rare in this period. Even straight razors
were still flat ground. More of these Knives were made after 1876 when more
of the Grinders in Sheffield England became more proficient at hollow
grinding.
We could have just as easily called this an 1876 Bowie. The Woestenholm
Bowie made for the American Centennial Exposition was a Double Hollow
Ground Hunting Bowie.
I had a very long conversation with our good friend- Bill Adams-(American
Bowie Knife Society) and he said that these also were slim & short in
the handle.
We made the handles compact and slim but not short. We felt that modern
hands were a bit larger and these would be better served with full length
handles.
True hollow grinding was not actually perfected in Sheffield until well
into the very late 1800s or even the early 1900s. That is when straight
razors began to be hollow ground.”

Aurora (New Run)

|
Mike Stewart says
“Here is the Aurora
Bushcraft Knife.
As a lot of you know this Knife is my personal design of what I would like
to see in a Bushcraft Knife for all around use in the field.
I like a substantial Knife and this is all of that but not too big to
actually have with you for bushcraft.
The handle should be comfortable for any size hand and is contoured for a
sure-positive grip – no matter how you hold it.
The convex grind will give you maximum cutting power and easily baton
through wood.
We took our time developing this knife and field tested prototypes for over
a year before we finalized the k
Knife.”
